Data Governance Report: Mastering Data Governance for Digital Transformation Success

To understand how organisations are managing their data, Veritas and bluesource recently commissioned IDG to survey 100 UK based IT decision makers from a cross section of companies employing 500 people or more. Their job titles ranged from the C-suite to IT Director.

  1. Data processes can be optimised in 75-80% of enterprises, with new analytics tools being crucial to understanding and visualising data repositories and flows.
  2. Technology procurement has changed from “IT” to “OT” (Operational Technology).
  3. 95% of IT decision makers agree that leveraging enterprise data is key to being able to invest wisely.
  4. Nearly a third of IT decision makers would categorise their organisation’s data processes as repeatable, their processes as established, and they have initial infrastructure components in place.
  5. 68% of IT decision makers are considering deploying data, analytics and visualisation tools to improve their data management capability.
  6. 71% of IT decision makers who have a data management strategy in place believe it to be somewhat effective and would like to do more to improve its effectiveness.
  7. 45% of respondents believe that the rising number of cloud solutions and endpoints have made the data lifecycle management more difficult, but overall Cloud has had a positive impact on their ability to manage data.
  8. 34% of respondents believe their organisation has a problem with shadow IT.
