bluesource improves ECB’s data visibility and control over access management

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is the national governing body for all cricket in England and Wales. The ECB runs successful England teams, oversees domestic and recreational cricket, and runs participation programmes that get children active and playing cricket. Through cricket ECB wants to improve lives and connect communities.

The Background

Since the Pandemic, moving to remote working has increased the use of Teams exponentially plus everything is now being shared using SharePoint and OneDrive.

As with most organisations, the ECB were keen to ensure that staff only had access to data within their areas of responsibility and wanted to have visibility of this. The ECB were also wanted to understand how users collaborated and shared information internally and with external parties, and to gain better control over the information that was shared with their numerous  external partners.

The Solution

After understanding ECB’s concern on how to manage and audit the sharing of confidential files, bluesource introduced Torsion’s access management and governance solution to ECB.

The project began with kick-off workshop to clarify the specific ECB requirements and priorities which were:

  • Engaging and empowering the business users with data governance policies and controls
  • Data security: getting control of ‘who has access to what’, without increasing the burden on ECB’s IT personnel
  • Enhancing external sharing capabilities and controls

Following the implementation of the Data Access Governance (DAG) solution, bluesource and Torsion have now enabled users to intuitively apply their own time limits on sharing files internally and externally to users, and to easily view and run reports on who has access to what across the information estates they are responsible for, which is not easily done in native SharePoint.

As a result, ECB can empower its data owners to far better control and manage access to data on their SharePoint and OneDrive for Business resources.
