bluesource implemented Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for a global consulting firm

The Background

A leading global consulting firm that offers economic, financial, and strategic expertise to major law firms, corporations, accounting firms, and governments around the world wanted to capitalise on their existing Microsoft  investment and improve their security posture by migrating their client and server estates to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for Servers.

Within the firm there was little in-house knowledge concerning MDE so to the IT team wanted to be involved in the deployment of the solution.  They were also keen to understand the full capabilities of MDE, including the associated best practices with regards onboarding, security and endpoint configuration.

The Solution

To help with the upskilling process and ensure the solution delivered against the needs of the firm, bluesource adopted a collaborative approach and facilitated a series of design workshops to determine the business and technical requirements. These were incorporated into a technical solution aligned with established best practices and baselines. This phase was followed by a guided/assisted configuration and onboarding process.

The solution comprised of the following:

  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint service configuration comprising of:
    1. Service level security configuration settings
    2. RBAC roles, device groups, and delineation of permissions to allow individual teams to manage specific device groups
  • Email alert configuration
  • Client-side configuration settings, deployed via Group Policy
  • An onboarding and monitoring process.

The Result

The firm were able to utilise the insights and product expertise offered by bluesource whilst implementing MDE across their estate. The collaborative approach taken throughout the project meant they were able to better understand the capabilities and functionality of MDE, and benefit from the skills transfer.

Why bluesource?

“bluesource offered expertise across the entire Microsoft  stack, including a deep understanding of the security and compliance capabilities, and how the various products could be integrated with each other. Based on the existing relationship we have with them, we felt they were ideally placed to deliver this work.” said the global consulting firm.
