bluesource helps Robert Gordon University ensure business continuity and data compliance whilst migrating to Microsoft 365

Robert Gordon University (RGU) provides industry specific undergraduate and postgraduate courses that result in relevant awards and degrees. Situated on one of the most beautiful campuses in the UK, the university provides facilities that help stimulate and nurture a willingness to learn.

The Challenge

To provide RGU’s staff and students with a flexible way of working and studying, RGU decided to adopt a cloud first strategy by rolling out Microsoft 365 across the University – including the migration of staff email onto Microsoft 365.

Due to the complexity of the migration and the potential for data loss, RGU’s IT team were not confident undertaking the migration themselves, so decided to seek expert guidance from bluesource.

The Solution

Through a series of workshops conducted by bluesource’s highly skilled consultants, we took the time to understand RGU’s needs, challenges, current and ideal IT environment, and their ecosystem and dependencies for different applications.

We worked together with RGU’s IT team to design and deploy the solution using industry best practices and Microsoft’s Preferred Architecture (PA).

We have also leveraged the security and compliance wraps that can be adopted when the data is resident in the cloud.

The solution involved migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2013 via a hybrid to Exchange Online and migrating user data held in FileShares to OneDrive for Business.

The roll out of Microsoft 365 quickly extends RGU’s staff and students’ ability to communicate, collaborate, organise and share information. It also allows them to work and study flexibly and remotely.

Microsoft 365 cuts the time and costs associated with running and maintaining RGU’s own application servers for mail, communication and collaboration.
