Meeting sustainability targets with a fully managed SaaS

the challenge

WWF were storing and maintaining over 5TB of data, on premise, which was adding to their bottom line on a monthly basis.  Their staff were also restricted to their desks and not able to maintain any level of productivity whilst out of the office.

WWF-UK reviewed a number of technology solutions to help them address their archiving challenges. EV247, powered by Microsoft Azure, which uniquely integrates Veritas’s Enterprise Vault – with bluesource’s own fully managed service, stood out from the rest. WWF found that EV247 offered a far superior, cost effective and fundamental core difference to other best-in-class cloud archiving solutions

the solution

We're saving circa £2000 per month in the UK, and based on that, the investment in the new EV247 service will have paid for itself in approximately 12 months

the results

By moving from EV on-premises, to EV247 on Azure, IT resource is no longer required to manage the application, as bluesource now provides this as part of the fully managed service. WWF haves saved 25 FTE hours per month in activity savings which means they can now empower his team to focus on projects that better serve the goals of the organisation.

Critically the SaaS operating model has enabled IT to move away from a capex financial model, which required an up front investment to cover future storage requirements. The SaaS model provides a pay as you go, opex model – with no investment spikes. This removes pressure on budgets to enable better planning and allocation of funds to WWF’s sustainability projects.

The move to EV247, which automatically includes enhanced capability for mobile users, has enabled remote fundraisers and project teams to access information archives on their mobile devices – whether they’re on-line or off-line.

EV247 was able to deliver value to the organisation quickly by freeing IT staff from routine IT activities – delivering nearly 20% cost savings in the management of the solution.

By introducing EV247 – powered by Microsoft Azure, WWF-UK, has delivered a paradigm shift for commodity IT – proving the way to move other IT solutions in the future.

“The management and governance of data is critical to us, as is its availability and its smooth, secure, delivery to our audiences – on any device – at any time. The need for archiving and curation of data has grown with the explosion of information we now face, so we needed to scale up our infrastructure to reflect this – EV247 allows us to do exactly this”
