The Royal Pharmaceutical Society outsources management of IT infrastructure

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has entrusted the remote, management of its information archiving, email and messaging infrastructure to bluesource.

This move has helped The RPS reshape delivery of IT and address the challenge of an increased workload – after recently becoming the new professional leadership body for pharmacists in England, Scotland and Wales. The RPS’ messaging infrastructure now benefits from improved management, more detailed analytics, faster problem resolution and pre-emptive maintenance that reduces the likelihood of unanticipated outages.

Andy Langler, Director of Commercial Services and Operations at The RPS explained, “After one of the most significant organisational changes in our 170 year history, our IT team had to manage two of each of our systems. Enlisting bluesource means that we can now spend more time targeting the needs of our end users, rather than fire fighting internal systems. bluesource's proactive approach to problem identification and quick resolution is also proving a major bonus. They are enabling our business operations to enjoy total business continuity, so we can confidently deliver services, without disruption, to all of our internal and external customers.”

bluesource deliver a 24x7 remote infrastructure management solution, from its London-based operations centre - providing proactive performance monitoring of RPS’ Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Symantec Enterprise Vault and Blackberry Enterprise Server systems. bluesource’s detailed diagnostics shows the health of The RPS infrastructure, with  automated problem detection and a swift, ITIL-aligned response to alerts and incidents.

bluesource’s monitoring platform also gathers information from across all managed systems, including CPU performance, storage limits, data transfer rates, service availability, disk space utilisation and data growth rates.

In addition to the regular maintenance, information is prioritised, interpreted and feeds directly into the bluesource service management database. At the end of every month, The RPS receives a detailed report, complete with high-level executive summary, which includes an overview of all service tickets, availability reports and key recommendations. This insight helps RPS plan for the future and ensures that all aspects of the service are clearly documented in an easy to read format.
